Hush puppies

Ingredients/Components

• cornmeal
• flour - 1/2 c
• baking soda - 3/4 tsp
• salt - 1/2 tsp
• sugar - 1 tsp
• garlic salt - 1/2 tsp
• chopped onion - 1/2 c
• buttermilk - 1 c
• egg - 1 item
• vegetable oil - 1 item

How to make hush puppies:

Sift together cornmeal, flour, baking soda, salt, sugar and garlic salt. Add onions. Combine egg and buttermilk, then add to dry ingredients, stirring until mixture is moist. Drop batter by teaspoonful into deep hot oil (400°), frying only a few at a time. Turn hush puppies once and cook until they are a golden brown. Remove and drain on brown paper towels.
