Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 2 Tbsp
- milk - 3/4 c
- salt - 1 tsp
- baking powder - 2 tsp
- baking soda - 1/2 tsp
- all-purpose flour - 1/2 c
- egg, beaten - 1 item
- yellow cornmeal - 2 c
- cream-style corn - 3/4 c
- confectioners sugar optional - 1 item
- cooking oil for frying - 1 item
How to make hush puppies:
In a bowl, combine cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and baking soda. Add egg, milk and corn. Stir just until mixed. In a deep fat fryer, heat oil to 375°. Drop batter by teaspoonfuls into oil. Fry until golden brown. Allow to cool slightly and roll in confectioners sugar if desired. Serve immediately with fried chicken, ham or sausage.
