Hush puppies

Ingredients/Components

• sugar - 1/2 tsp
• salt - 1 tsp
• water - 3/4 c
• buttermilk - 1/2 c
• baking powder - 1 tsp
• baking soda - 1/2 tsp
• egg - 1 item
• all-purpose flour - 1 c
• chopped onion - 1/2 c
• melted butter or margarine - 1/2 c
• corn meal - 2 c

How to make hush puppies:

Sift together corn meal, flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and sugar. Place in a small bowl. Add onions, buttermilk and water. Mix well. Add butter or margarine and egg. Blend. Drop by small tablespoons into preheated deep fat (370°). Cook until golden brown. Yield: about 30.
