Gumdrop cake

Ingredients/Components

• sugar - 2 c
• cinnamon - 1 tsp
• eggs - 2 item
• vanilla - 1 tsp
• flour - 4 c
• nutmeg - 1/4 tsp
• cloves - 1/4 tsp
• unsweetened applesauce
• white raisins - 1 lb
• butter or shortening - 1 c
• soda, dissolved in 2 Tbsp - 1 tsp
• nuts, sauteed in butter a few minutes - 1 c
• gumdrops, cut into small pieces do not use black ones! - 1 2

How to make gumdrop cake:

Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs, applesauce and soda. Then add vanilla, fruit, gumdrops and dry ingredients. Mix well. Bake in loaf pans in slow oven (300°) or until tester comes out clean. It may take longer than an hour to bake.

I remember as a child my mother making this for us in place of "traditional" fruit cake at Christmas.
