German chocolate cake
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 2 c
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- flour
- egg yolks - 4 item
- coconut - 1 c
- soda - 1 tsp
- buttermilk - 1 c
- boiling water - 1/2 c
- shortening - 1 c
- egg whites - 4 item
- stick butter - 1 item
- pecans - 1 c
- German chocolate - 1 pkg
- Melt chocolate in boiling water
How to make german chocolate cake:
Mix flour, soda and salt together and set aside. Melt chocolate in boiling water. Then cream shortening, sugar and yolks. Add chocolate mixture to the creamed mixture. Add vanilla and add flour mixture and buttermilk alternately. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites. Bake in 3 prepared cake pans or loaf pan at 350° for 35 to 40 minutes.Frosting:1 c. evaporated milk1 c. sugar3 egg yolks1 stick butter1 tsp. vanilla1 c. coconut1 c. pecans Mix and cook evaporated milk, sugar, egg yolks and butter until thick, about 10 minutes.
