Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1/3 c
- vanilla - 1/2 tsp
- butter or margarine - 1/2 c
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- flour - 2 c
- brown sugar - 1 c
- water - 1/3 c
- baking soda - 1/2 tsp
- egg - 1 item
- shortening - 1/2 c
- powdered sugar - 1/2 c
- cream of tartar - 1/2 tsp
- finely chopped walnuts - 1/2 c
- vanilla or almond extract
- ground dates
- sour cream or sweet cream - 1 Tbsp
How to make date nut pinwheels:
Date Filling:3/4 lb. ground dates1/3 c. water1/3 c. sugar1/2 c. finely chopped walnuts1/2 c. butter or margarine1/2 c. shortening1/2 c. sugar1/2 c. powdered sugar1 egg1 1/2 tsp. vanilla or almond extract2 1/4 c. flour1/2 tsp. baking soda1/2 tsp. cream of tartar1/2 tsp. salt Cream butter and sugars. Add egg and vanilla or almond extract. Beat. Add sifted dry ingredients. Mix well.Drop by teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets. Dip bottom of glass into mixture of cinnamon and sugar and gently press onto each cookie. (You must re-dip glass into cinnamon sugar for each cookie.) Bake at 375° for 10 to 12 minutes. Makes about 50 cookies
This recipe also makes great rolled sugar cookies. Reduce baking time since rolled cookies will be thinner.
