Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 Tbsp
- salt - 3/4 tsp
- vegetable oil - 2/3 c
- dry mustard - 1/4 tsp
- paprika - 1/4 tsp
- pepper - 1/4 tsp
- clove garlic, minced - 1 item
- Shake well or whip with wire whisk until ingredients are well blended and of a thick and creamy consistency
- red wine or apple cider vinegar - 1/3 c
How to make classic french dressing:
Combine all ingredients in a screw-top jar or small bowl. Shake well or whip with wire whisk until ingredients are well blended and of a thick and creamy consistency. Chill. Refrigerate in tightly covered container. Shake well before using. Makes 1 cup dressing.Variations: Curried French Dressing: Follow recipe. Add 1/4 cup dairy sour cream. Blend well.Herbal French Dressing: Follow recipe. Add 1 tablespoon snipped fresh parsley: 1 teaspoon dried basil or oregano leaves and 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme leaves. Blend well.
Creamy French Dressing: Follow recipe. Add 1/4 cup dairy sour cream. Blend well.
Anchovy French Dressing: Follow recipe but substitute lemon juice for vinegar, omit salt and add 6 minced anchovy fillets. Blend well.
Tomato French Dressing: Follow recipe. Add 1/2 cup ketchup. Blend well.
