Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 1/3 c
  • salt - 1 Tbsp
  • shortening - 1/2 c
  • flour, sifted - 6 c
  • warm water - 2 c
  • dry yeast - 1 pkg

How to make cinnamon rolls:

Dissolve yeast in warm water; add sugar, salt shortening and stir until sugar and salt are dissolved. Stir in flour and mix until all is well blended. Turn out on a floured surface and knead well, about 5 minutes. Place in a a greased pan, covered with a cloth, for 1 hour over a pan of warm (not hot) water and let rise until double in bulk. Knead down again. Place over warm water again for about 30 minutes. Roll dough to 1/8-inch to 1/4-inch thick on a slightly greased surface. Spread with 2 tablespoons softened margarine, sprinkle with 1/4 cup brown sugar and 1 tablespoon cinnamon mixed together. Roll up and cut into desired thickness. Place in a greased pan with brown sugar in the bottom. Let rise for about 45 minutes and bake at 350° for about 30 minutes.
