Ingredients/Components

  • vanilla - 3/4 tsp
  • granulated sugar - 3/4 c
  • milk - 1/2 c
  • butter or margarine
  • salt - 1/8 tsp
  • brown sugar - 1/2 c
  • cocoa - 3 Tbsp
  • baking powder
  • sifted flour - 3/4 c
  • chopped black walnuts - 3/4 c
  • sugar, granulated - 1/2 c
  • Sift cocoa, flour, baking powder and salt

How to make chocolate upside-down cake:

Cream sugar and butter. Sift cocoa, flour, baking powder and salt. Add to creamed mixture. Add milk and flavoring and beat for 1 1/2 minutes. Fold in nuts and pour in glass loaf pan. Pour sauce over batter and bake at 350° for 35 minutes.Sauce:1 1/3 c. water1/2 c. sugar, granulated1/2 c. brown sugar3 Tbsp. cocoa Bring all ingredients to a boil. Stir until dissolved and poured over cake batter. Serve piping hot or cold.
