Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 c
- eggs - 2 item
- milk - 3/4 c
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- baking powder - 3 tsp
- vegetable oil - 1 item
- boiling water - 1/2 c
- shortening - 2 Tbsp
- all-purpose flour
- powdered sugar
- ground cinnamon - 1 tsp
- ground nutmeg - 1/4 tsp
How to make cake doughnuts:
Glaze:1 c. powdered sugar1/2 c. boiling water Heat oil in deep-fat fryer (2 to 3 inches) or heavy kettle to 375°. Beat 1 1/2 cups flour and the remaining ingredients in large mixer bowl on low speed, scraping bowl constantly, 30 seconds. Beat on medium speed, scraping occasionally, 2 minutes. Stir in remaining flour. Turn dough onto well-floured cloth covered board. Roll around lightly; coat with flour. Roll gently 3/8-inch thick. Cut with floured doughnut cutter. Slide doughnut into hot oil with wide spatula. Turn doughnuts when they rise to surface. Fry until golden brown, 1 to 2 minutes on each side. Remove from oil; do not prick doughnuts. Drain on paper towels. Serve plain or frosted.To dress up doughnuts, shake on powdered sugar or roll doughnuts in granulated sugar. To glaze doughnuts dip into warm glaze.
