Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1/2 tsp
- salt - 1 tsp
- water - 1/2 c
- egg - 1 item
- pepper - 1/2 tsp
- bay leaf - 1/2 item
- onion - 1 item
- can tomatoes
- beef - 1 lb
- pork - 1/2 lb
- cabbage leaves - 8 item
- saltines - 6 item
- dash of powdered sage - 1 item
How to make cabbage rolls:
Sauce:1 (1 lb.) can tomatoes1/2 c. water1/2 bay leaf1/2 tsp. salt dash of powdered sage1/2 tsp. sugar Cook cabbage leaves in boiling, salted water for 2 minutes. Drain. Grind beef, pork, saltines and onion in grinder, using fine disc. Stir in egg and seasoning. Place 3 tablespoons of meat mixture on each leaf; roll. Fasten with a toothpick. Put in a large skillet and cover with tomato sauce. Cover skillet and simmer for about one hour. Yields 8 servings.Variations: Scald 4 to 5 medium green peppers. Drain and stuff with meat mixture. Stand upright in pan. Add sauce and proceed as directed.
