Ingredients/Components
- milk - 1 c
- butter or margarine - 3 Tbsp
- flour
- egg yolks - 2 item
- cream - 4 Tbsp
- white sugar - 1 c
- Cook until mixture is thick and brown
How to make butterscotch pie:
Mix sugar, butter and cream. Cook until mixture is thick and brown. Remove from heat. Combine milk, flour and egg yolks. Stir in first mixture. Cook until thick, stirring constantly. Pour into baked pie crust. Top with meringue.Meringue:2 egg whites3 Tbsp. white sugar Beat until stiff and will hold peaks. Brown in a 325° oven for about 15 minutes.Note: This recipe took the prize in 1922 and is older than Helen.
