  • sour cream - 1 pt
  • butter
  • water - 1 c
  • soy sauce - 2 tsp
  • bay leaf - 1 item
  • salt and pepper - 1 item
  • cloves garlic - 2 item
  • tomato sauce - 3 Tbsp
  • chopped parsley - 1 Tbsp
  • cans water - 2 item
  • medium onions, chopped - 5 item
  • Burgundy - 1 c
  • can consomme - 1 item
  • box fresh mushrooms, sliced - 1 item
  • top round - 3 lb
  • pinch of thyme and oregano - 1 item
  • Add meat which you have had the butcher slice as thin as possible, about 1/8-inch thick and which you have cut into 1/2-inch squares, removing all fat and brown

How to make beef stroganoff:

Brown onion and garlic in butter. Add meat (which you have had the butcher slice as thin as possible, about 1/8-inch thick and which you have cut into 1/2-inch squares, removing all fat) and brown. Cover with wine, water and spices. Simmer until tender (about 1 1/2 hours). Add tomato sauce, soy sauce and mushrooms; simmer 1/2 hour longer. Just before serving, carefully stir in sour cream and garnish with parsley. This dish is best cooked in a Dutch oven and served over rice.Baked Rice:1 c. Uncle Ben's long grain rice1 1/2 Tbsp. butter1 can consomme2 cans water salt and pepper Mothers would make this dish on Sunday and let it marinate overnight. The children would then drop it off at the baker's on their way to school Monday and pick it up on their way home for lunch.
