Apple relish
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 4 c
- salt - 1 Tbsp
- boiling water - 1 c
- allspice - 2 Tbsp
- crushed red pepper - 1 tsp
- stick cinnamon - 1 item
- whole cloves - 1 Tbsp
- distilled white vinegar - 1 qt
- onions, quartered - 5 item
- large red apples, cored and quartered - 14 item
How to make apple relish:
Attach food grinder, using coarse grinding plate. Turn to speed 4 and grind onions and red pepper in small bowl. Add water and salt. Let stand 15 minutes, then drain. Attach clean grinder with coarse plate. Grind apples into a 5-quart pot. Add onion and red pepper mixture, vinegar, sugar and cloth bag filled with spices. Bring to a boil and cook 15 minutes. Remove spice bag.Ladle into hot, sterilized jars and process 15 minutes in boiling water bath. Remove jars from bath. Cool and check seals. Yields 6 pints.
