Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 item
- cinnamon - 2 tsp
- nutmeg - 1/2 tsp
- apples - 1 item
How to make apple butter:
Wash and core apples; do not peel. Cook until tender. Let stand until cool. Put apples through a food mill or colander and measure 1 cup fruit to 1 cup sugar. Cook 7 cups at a time. Add the nutmeg and cinnamon. Cook slowly for 1 hour, stirring often to keep from scorching. Test for doneness by putting 1 tablespoon apples in a dish and cool completely. If thickened, pour into hot jars and seal. Yields 5 to 6 pints.Recipe categories: Fruit, Apple, Condiments, etc..
