Ingredients/Components

  • eggs - 2 item
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • granulated sugar - 2 c
  • milk - 1/2 c
  • butter or margarine - 1/2 c
  • buttermilk - 1/2 c
  • margarine or butter
  • baking soda - 1 tsp
  • shortening - 1/2 c
  • all-purpose flour - 2 c
  • unsifted powdered sugar
  • dark unsweetened cocoa - 1/4 c
  • dark cocoa - 2 Tbsp
  • strong brewed coffee or water - 1 c

How to make texas brownies:

Frosting:1/2 c. margarine or butter2 Tbsp. dark cocoa1/2 c. milk3 1/2 c. unsifted powdered sugar1 tsp. vanilla Brownies: Combine flour and sugar. In saucepan, combine margarine, shortening, coffee or water and cocoa. Heat to boiling. Pour over sugar and flour; add buttermilk, eggs, baking soda and vanilla. Mix well. Pour into buttered 17 1/2 x 11-inch jelly roll pan. Bake at 400° for 20 minutes.

Frosting: Prepare frosting in a saucepan. Combine butter, cocoa and milk. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly. Mix in powdered sugar and vanilla until frosting is smooth. Pour warm frosting over brownies as soon as you take them out of the oven. Cool; cut into 48 bars.
