Ingredients/Components

  • eggs - 2 item
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • granulated sugar - 2 c
  • milk - 1/4 c
  • butter
  • buttermilk - 1/2 c
  • baking soda - 1 tsp
  • shortening - 1/2 c
  • all-purpose flour - 2 c
  • powdered sugar
  • 1 stick butter - 1/2 c
  • dark unsweetened cocoa - 1/4 c
  • dark cocoa - 2 Tbsp
  • strong brewed coffee or water - 1 c

How to make texas brownies:

Frosting:1/2 c. butter2 Tbsp. dark cocoa1/4 c. milk3 1/2 c. powdered sugar1 tsp. vanilla In large mixing bowl, combine flour and sugar. In heavy saucepan, combine butter, shortening, coffee or water and cocoa. Stir and heat to boiling. Pour boiling mixture over flour and sugar. Add buttermilk, eggs, baking soda and vanilla. Mix well, using wooden spoon or high speed on mixer. Pour into well buttered 17 1/2 x 11-inch jelly roll pan or 2 large rectangular pans. Bake at 400° for 20 minutes or until done in middle. While brownies bake, prepare frosting.

Frosting: In saucepan combine butter, cocoa and milk. Heat to boiling, stirring. Mix in powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth. Pour warm frosting over brownies as soon as you take them out of oven. Cool, cut into squares.
