- salt - 1 tsp
- flour
- buttermilk - 1 c
- baking powder - 1 tsp
- baking soda - 1/2 tsp
- egg - 1 item
- cornmeal - 1 c
- bacon drippings to season - 1 item
- greased skillet - 1 item
How to make southern cornbread:
Combine buttermilk, egg, cornmeal, flour, soda, baking powder and salt. Mix well, then add 3 to 4 tablespoons bacon drippings. Pour into a very hot well-greased iron skillet. Bake at 450° for 20 to 25 minutes, until brown.Recipe categories: Breads, American, Southern u.s..
