Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 Tbsp
- salt
- baking powder - 1 tsp
- shortening - 1 Tbsp
- sifted flour - 4 c
- warm water - 1/4 c
- dry yeast - 1 pkg
- scalded milk cooled
How to make sopaipillas:
Dissolve yeast in warm water. Add to milk. Combine dry ingredients in a medium-sized bowl and cut in shortening. Make a well in center of dry ingredients. Add liquid mixture to dry mixture and work into a dough. Knead for 10 minutes or until smooth. Cover and set aside. Heat oil in electric skillet to 420°. Roll dough to 1/8-inch thickness, cut into 4-inch squares. Brown on both sides, turning once. Drain on paper towels. Serve hot with honey.Recipe categories: Desserts, Pies and tarts, North american.
