  • sugar - 1 c
  • vanilla - 2 tsp
  • butter or margarine - 2 Tbsp
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • cornstarch - 1 Tbsp
  • water - 2/3 c
  • light corn syrup - 3/4 c

How to make salt water taffy:

Mix sugar, syrup, water, cornstarch, butter and salt in 2-quart pan. Cook over medium heat, stirring with a wooden spoon until 256°. Stir in vanilla and pour into buttered 8-inch pan. When cool, pull until light in color and stiff. Cut into small pieces and wrap in waxed paper.
