  • sugar - 2 c
  • eggs - 2 item
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • flour
  • butter - 1 c
  • soda - 1/2 tsp
  • cocoa - 1 Tbsp
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • baking powder
  • vinegar - 1 Tbsp
  • red food coloring - 2 oz
  • flour plain
  • sweet milk - 1 c

How to make red velvet cake:

Frosting:3 Tbsp. flour1 c. sweet milk1 c. butter1 c. sugar Combine butter with sugar; cream. Add eggs, one at a time, beating thoroughly after each addition. Make a paste of vinegar and cocoa. Add it to mixture. Sift dry ingredients 4 times. Add alternately with 1 cup buttermilk. Add food coloring and vanilla. Mix thoroughly. Bake at 325° for 25 to 30 minutes. Yields 3 layers.

Frosting: Heat milk and flour until thickened; set aside to cool completely. In mixing bowl, add flour mixture, butter and sugar. Beat until like whipped cream. Add 1 cup coconut, 1 cup pecans (chopped) and 1 teaspoon vanilla, if desired. Frost cake.
