Ingredients/Components
- sugar
- eggs - 2 item
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- granulated sugar - 1 c
- salt
- soda - 1 tsp
- cocoa - 2 Tbsp
- buttermilk - 1 c
- vinegar - 1 Tbsp
- shortening - 1/2 c
- sifted flour
- margarine - 1 c
- butter flavoring - 1 tsp
- red food coloring - 2 oz
- sweet milk - 1 c
- Add eggs and blend
How to make red velvet cake:
Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs and blend. Make paste with food coloring and cocoa; add to mixture. Sift flour and salt together. Then with electric mixer at medium speed, add alternately with buttermilk and flavorings. Blend well. Mix soda and vinegar together; add to batter, stirring gently. Bake in two 8-inch greased and floured pans at 350° for 30 minutes.Frosting:3 Tbsp. flour1/2 tsp. salt1 c. sweet milk1 c. margarine1 c. granulated sugar2 tsp. vanilla Blend flour, salt and milk.
