Ingredients/Components
- cloves garlic, minced - 2 item
- hot cooked rice - 1 item
- tsp salt - 1 item
- tsp pepper - 1 item
- tsp sugar - 1/2 item
- tsp thyme - 1/4 item
- tsp oregano - 1/4 item
- tsp red pepper - 1/8 item
- cup green onion, chopped - 1 item
- qts water - 2 item
- meaty ham bone - 1 item
- cup tomato sauce - 1/4 item
- tsp hot sauce - 1/8 item
- cups onion, chopped - 3 item
- Tbsp Worchestershire sauce - 1 item
- lb dried red beans - 1 item
How to make red beans and rice:
Sort and wash beans; place in a Dutch oven. Add ham bone and water; bring to a boil, and boil 3 minutes. Remove from heat and let stand 1 hour. Return mixture to a boil, cover, reduce heat, and simmer 3 hours. Remove ham bone; remove and discard fat and bone. Shred meat, and return to bean mixture. Stir in onion and next 11 ingredients. Bring to a boil; reduce heat, and simmer 1 hour. Remove 1/2 cup beans; mash beans and return to Dutch oven, stirring well. Serve beans over rice. Top each serving with green onions.
