Ingredients/Components

  • butter or margarine
  • salt - 2 tsp
  • flour - 1 Tbsp
  • egg - 1 item
  • soft bread crumbs
  • ground beef
  • oregano - 1/4 tsp
  • finely chopped onion - 1/4 c
  • can tomatoes - 1 oz
  • thyme - 1/4 tsp
  • finely chopped parsley - 2 Tbsp
  • Tabasco - 1/2 tsp
  • 3/4-inch strips American cheese - 8 item
  • reserved tomatoes - 1 item

How to make pizza meat loaf:

Tomato Sauce:2 Tbsp. butter or margarine reserved tomatoes1/4 tsp. salt1/4 tsp. oregano1 Tbsp. flour Drain tomatoes. Measure 3/4 cup liquid. Reserve remaining tomatoes and liquid for the tomato sauce. Add Tabasco to egg and tomato liquid in large mixing bowl. Beat until well blended.

Stir in soft bread crumbs. Add onion, parsley, thyme, salt and ground beef. Mix until well blended. Form into loaf in shallow baking pan and bake in 350° oven for 45 minutes. Remove and spoon 1/3 of tomato sauce over loaf. Place cheese strips across top. Return to oven and bake 15 minutes more. Drain drippings into remaining sauce. Heat and serve at table.

Tomato Sauce: Melt butter; saute onion until tender but not brown and stir in tomatoes, salt and oregano. Bring to boil then simmer for 15 minutes. Add 1 1/2 tablespoons of water to flour. Stir to smooth paste. Gradually add to sauce. Stir until thickened.
