Patriotic gelatin salad
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 c
- vanilla - 2 tsp
- pkg - 2 oz
- milk - 2 c
- envelopes unflavored gelatin - 2 item
- 16 oz - 2 c
- boiling water, divided - 4 c
- cold water, divided
How to make patriotic gelatin salad:
In separate bowls, dissolve each package of jello in 1 cup boiling water. Add 1/2 cup cold water. Pour one bowl of blue jello in fluted tube pan. Chill until almost set, about 30 minutes. Set other 3 bowls aside at room temperature. Soften unflavored gelatin in remaining cold water. Let stand 5 minutes. Heat milk in a saucepan over medium heat just below boiling. Stir in softened gelatin and sugar until dissolved. Remove from heat. Stir in sour cream and vanilla until smooth. When blue jello in pan is set, carefully spoon 1 1/2 cups sour cream mixture over it. Chill until almost set, about 30 minutes.Carefully spoon one bowl strawberry jello over cream layer. Let set about 30 minutes. Repeat blue jello and let set, cream layer and let set, then strawberry. Chill several hours or overnight. Yields 16 servings.
Note: This salad takes time to prepare since each layer must be about set before next layer can be added.
