Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 2 c
- eggs - 5 item
- vanilla - 1 Tbsp
- chopped pecans - 2 c
- pkg - 1 oz
- salt - 1 tsp
- butter - 1 c
- buttermilk - 3/4 c
- baking soda - 1/2 tsp
- shredded coconut - 4 oz
- sifted flour - 4 c
- lemon juice - 1/4 c
- grated orange peel - 1 tsp
- orange juice - 1/4 c
- grated lemon peel
- confectioners sugar sifted - 1/2 c
- orange slices, diced - 1 lb
- lemon syrup - 1 item
How to make orange candy cake:
Lemon Syrup:1 tsp. grated lemon peel1 tsp. grated orange peel1/4 c. lemon juice1/4 c. orange juice1/2 c. confectioners sugar (sifted) Cake: Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Beat in eggs, lot a time, add vanilla. Mix dates, candy, nuts and coconut with 1/4 cup flour. Sift remaining flour with baking soda and salt. Alternately fold into cream mixture with buttermilk. Fold in date mixture. Spoon into well-greased and floured tube pan. Bake at 300° for 2 1/2 hours. Remove cake from oven and at once pour on lemon syrup. Cool, then remove from pan. Wrap in foil and refrigerate 1 day before serving.Note: Has fruit cake flavor, but is less expensive.
Lemon Syrup: Mix all the ingredients together and pour over Orange Candy Cake.
