  • sugar - 1 c
  • eggs - 2 item
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • packed brown sugar - 1 c
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • baking soda - 1 tsp
  • shortening - 1 c
  • all-purpose flour - 1/4 c
  • chopped walnuts - 1/2 c
  • raisins - 1 c
  • ground cloves - 1/8 tsp
  • oatmeal, uncooked - 3 c
  • ground cinnamon - 1 tsp
  • ground nutmeg - 1/4 tsp

How to make old-fashioned oatmeal cookies:

Combine raisins, walnuts and 1/4 cup flour; toss well to coat and set aside. Cream shortening; gradually add sugar, beating well. Add eggs, beating well after each. Combine 1 1/4 cups flour, soda, salt and spices. Stir into creamed mixture; stir in oatmeal (dough will be stiff). Stir in raisin mixture and vanilla. Drop dough by rounded teaspoonful onto lightly greased cookie sheets. Bake at 350° for 12 to 15 minutes.
