Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 c
- eggs - 2 item
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- flour
- water - 1/2 c
- soda - 1/2 tsp
- baking powder - 1 Tbsp
- shortening - 1/2 c
- lemon juice - 1/2 c
- grated lemon peel - 1/2 c
- wheat germ - 1/2 c
How to make lemon bread:
Sift together the first 4 ingredients; add wheat germ. Cream shortening and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition. Combine water and lemon juice; add to shortening, sugar and egg mixture with lemon peel. Pour into flour mixture; stir just enough to moisten dry ingredients. Do not beat. Turn into well-greased loaf pan. Bake at 350° for 1 hour or until it tests done.Recipe categories: Breads, Quick breads, Oven.
