Kosher dill pickles
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 3/4 c
- salt - 1/2 c
- water - 1 qt
- vinegar - 1 qt
- bay leaves - 1 item
- mustard seed - 1 item
- garlic - 1 item
- mixed pickling spices - 3 Tbsp
- red hot peppers or loose red peppers - 1 item
- green or dried dill seed - 2 3
- to 40 cucumbers, cut in half lengthwise - 30 item
How to make kosher dill pickles:
Pack cucumbers in jars. Add to each jar the following: 2 or 3 cloves garlic, 2 bay leaves, 1/2 teaspoon mustard seed and 2 or 3 red hot peppers (or 1 teaspoon loose red peppers).Combine sugar, salt, water, vinegar, spices and dill seed. Simmer for 15 minutes. Add syrup to each jar. Cap tightly and cold pack in canner for 20 to 25 minutes.
