Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 2 Tbsp
  • milk - 1 c
  • salt - 1 Tbsp
  • flour
  • water - 1 c
  • shortening - 1 Tbsp
  • oleo - 1 Tbsp
  • dry yeast - 1 pkg

How to make homemade bread:

Heat milk, water, sugar, salt, shortening and oleo until warm. Off heat, add the yeast and stir until dissolved. Add flour, 2 cups at a time, and mix until dough pulls away from bowl and you can handle.

Turn out on floured board and knead dough. Work well. Add more flour, if needed, to keep from sticking. Knead until it has tiny bubbles. Put in greased bowl and cover until double in size.

Punch down dough and turn out on floured surface. Knead well. Divide in 2 loaves or make rolls and 1 loaf. Bake at 375° for 1 hour.
