Ingredients/Components

  • boiling water - 3/4 c
  • salt to taste - 1 item
  • white cornmeal - 1 c
  • bacon fat, butter or oil - 2 Tbsp

How to make hoe cakes:

Combine cornmeal and salt in a bowl. Pour in boiling water. Stir constantly. Beat until smooth. Drop spoonful of mixture into skillet of hot fat. Pat into flat circles. Brown on each side.
