  • sugar - 2 c
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • chopped pecans
  • pkg - 1 oz
  • butter or margarine - 1 c
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • flour
  • egg yolks - 4 item
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • boiling water - 1/2 c
  • egg whites - 4 item
  • egg yolks, slightly beaten - 4 item
  • Cool
  • 1 1/2 sticks margarine - 3/4 c

How to make german chocolate cake:

Melt chocolate in boiling water. Cool. Cream butter and sugar. Add yolks, beating well. Blend in vanilla and chocolate. Sift flour, soda and salt. Add alternately with buttermilk. Fold in beaten egg whites.

Pour into 3 (8 or 9-inch) pans, lined. Bake at 350° for 30 to 40 minutes. Cool. Frost with Coconut-Pecan Frosting.Coconut-Pecan Frosting:1 (12 oz.) can evaporated milk1 1/2 c. sugar3/4 c. (1 1/2 sticks) margarine4 egg yolks, slightly beaten1 1/2 tsp. vanilla1 (7 oz.) pkg. coconut1 1/2 c. chopped pecans Mix milk, sugar, margarine, egg yolks and vanilla in large saucepan. Cook and stir over medium heat, about 12 minutes, or until thickened and golden brown. Remove from heat. Stir in coconut and pecans. Cool.
