  • sugar - 1/2 c
  • eggs - 3 item
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • flour - 4 c
  • brown sugar - 1 c
  • water - 1/2 c
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • shortening - 1 c
  • white sugar - 1 c
  • Beat well

How to make date cookies:

Cream shortening; add sugar and eggs. Beat well. Sift flour and soda and mix. Roll out 1/2-inch thick and spread with filling which has been cooked and cooled.Filling:1 lb. chopped dates1/2 c. sugar1/2 c. water Cook until thick and smooth. Cool and spread on dough. Roll up like jelly roll and chill. Slice and bake in moderate oven at 350°.
