  • sugar - 1 c
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1/8 tsp
  • flour
  • baking soda - 1 tsp
  • egg - 1 item
  • shortening - 1/2 c

How to make date cake:

Cut in thirds 1 pound dates; add to this 1 1/2 cups boiling water. Cream together the sugar, shortening, salt and egg. Add the flour, soda and vanilla. Mix in the dates and bake at 350° for 40 to 45 minutes.
