Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 1 c
  • egg yolks - 2 item
  • almond extract - 1/2 tsp
  • sifted flour - 2 c
  • sticks butter, softened - 2 item
  • chopped or ground walnuts - 1 c
  • fruit jam or preserves - 1/2 c

How to make czechoslovakian cookies:

Preheat oven to 325°. Cream the butter until light and fluffy. Blend in egg yolks and extract. Gradually add flour; mix well. Spoon half of batter into lightly greased 7 x 11-inch pan or 8-inch square pan. Spread evenly with damp fingers. Spread jam on top of batter within 1/4 inch of edges. Best way to do this is to flatten the batter by hand and fit in pan. Bake 1 hour or until lightly browned. Cool on rack; cut into small bars and sprinkle with 10x sugar when cooled. Makes 32 to 36 cookies.
