Chocolate torte
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 3/4 c
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- milk - 2/3 c
- cocoa - 1/3 c
- egg - 1 item
- shortening - 2 Tbsp
- Bisquick baking mix
- cherry or apricot preserves - 1/2 c
- Chocolate Cream recipe follows - 1 item
How to make chocolate torte:
Heat oven to 350°. Grease and flour square pan, 8 x 8 x 2-inches, or round layer pan, 9 x 1 1/2-inches. Beat baking mix, sugar, cocoa, egg, milk, shortening and vanilla in large mixer bowl on low speed, scraping bowl constantly, 30 seconds. Beat on medium speed, scraping bowl occasionally, 4 minutes. Pour into pan. Bake until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean, about 35 minutes. Cool 10 minutes; remove from pan. Cool completely. Carefully split cake to make 2 layers. Spread bottom layer with preserves. Spread 1 cup Chocolate Cream over preserves. Top with second layer. Frost top and sides of cake with remaining Chocolate Cream. Garnish with cherries and sliced almonds, if desired. Refrigerate any remaining torte.Chocolate Cream: Beat 2 cups chilled whipping cream, 1 cup powdered sugar, 1/2 cup cocoa and 1 teaspoon vanilla in chilled bowl until stiff.
