  • salt - 1 tsp
  • boiling water - 1 item
  • large eggs - 2 item
  • lemon juice - 3 Tbsp
  • pepper - 1/4 tsp
  • clove garlic, minced - 1 item
  • can tomato sauce - 1 oz
  • lean ground beef - 1 lb
  • large onion, sliced - 1 item
  • firmly packed light brown sugar - 1/2 c
  • small onion, grated - 1 item
  • can tomatoes undrained - 1 oz
  • large leafy cabbage - 1 item
  • regular grain rice not instant; uncooked - 1/2 c

How to make cabbage rolls:

Remove 12 outer leaves from cabbage and place leaves in a large Dutch oven. Add boiling water to cover; let stand 30 to 50 minutes. Drain well and set aside.

Combine ground beef and next 5 ingredients. Place about 2 tablespoons of mixture in center of each cabbage leaf. Fold leaf, left and right sides over mixture. Roll up, beginning at bottom. Arrange cabbage rolls seam side down in Dutch oven. Top with sliced onion. Combine tomatoes and remaining ingredients and pour tomato mixture over cabbage rolls. Cover and cook over medium heat 1 hour or until tender. Yields 4 to 6 servings.
