  • vanilla - 1/2 tsp
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • baking powder - 1 tsp
  • egg - 1 item
  • shortening - 1/4 c
  • sifted flour - 3/4 c
  • light brown sugar, packed - 1 c
  • broken nuts - 1/2 c

How to make butterscotch brownies:

Heat oven to 350° (moderate). Melt shortening. Remove from heat and blend in sugar. Cool. Stir in egg, then sifted dry ingredients. Add vanilla and nuts. Spread in greased 8-inch square pan. Bake for 25 minutes. Do not overbake. Makes 16 (2-inch) squares.
