Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 2 Tbsp
  • salt - 2 tsp
  • water - 1/2 c
  • vinegar - 1 Tbsp
  • cooking oil - 2 Tbsp
  • 8 oz - 1 c
  • ground cinnamon - 1 tsp
  • ground ginger - 1 tsp
  • pepper - 1/2 tsp
  • chopped onion - 1/2 c
  • bay leaf - 1 item
  • cornstarch and water optional - 1 item
  • beer or beef broth - 3/4 c

How to make bavarian pot roast:

In a Dutch oven, brown roast in hot oil. Combine water, beer or broth, tomato sauce, onion, sugar, vinegar, salt, cinnamon, bay leaf, pepper and ginger. Pour over meat and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until meat is tender, about 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Remove meat. Discard bay leaf. If desired, thicken juices with cornstarch and water. Makes 8 to 10 servings.
