Ingredients/Components
- all-purpose flour - 2 c
- baking powder - 2 tsp
- salt - 1 tsp
- shortening Crisco - 2/3 c
- milk - 1/2 c
- grated raw apples
- sugar
- water - 2 c
- cinnamon - 1/4 tsp
- nutmeg - 1/4 tsp
- oleo - 2 Tbsp
- to 10 drops red food coloring - 6 item
How to make apple rolls:
Syrup Topping:2 c. sugar2 c. water1/4 tsp. cinnamon1/4 tsp. nutmeg2 Tbsp. oleo6 to 10 drops red food coloring Sift dry ingredients; cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add milk all at once and stir until flour is moistened. On lightly floured surface, roll about 1/4-inch thick into 18 x 12-inch rectangle. Spread on grated raw apples and roll like a jelly roll. Cut into 8 to 10 pieces about 1 to 1 1/2-inch thick. Place in ungreased 11 1/2 x 7 1/2 x 2-inch pan. Make syrup.Mix all ingredients in a boiler and bring to a boiling point and pour over the apple rolls. Bake at 375° for 35 to 40 minutes. Serve with cream or milk or just plain.
