Apple dumplings
Ingredients/Components
- sugar
- cinnamon - 1/4 tsp
- milk - 1/2 c
- salt - 1 tsp
- flour - 2 c
- water
- nutmeg - 1/4 tsp
- baking powder - 2 tsp
- shortening - 2/3 c
- oleo - 3 Tbsp
- medium apples whole, pared and cored - 6 item
How to make apple dumplings:
Combine sugar, water, cinnamon and nutmeg. Bring to a boil and add oleo. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Cut in shortening. Add milk, all at once. Stir until flour is moistened.On a lightly floured surface, roll 1/8-inch thick into 12 x 18-inch rectangle. Cut with knife into 6-inch squares. Place on each square 1 whole apple. Sprinkle each apple generously with a mixture of sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Dot with butter. Moisten edges of squares. Fold corners to center and pinch edges together. Place 1-inch apart in ungreased baking pan. Pour syrup over dumplings. Bake at 350° for 35 minutes or until apples are done. Serve with Cool Whip. Makes 6 servings.
