Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 3/4 c
  • cinnamon - 1/2 tsp
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • flour - 1 c
  • brown sugar - 1/2 c
  • butter - 1/2 c
  • nutmeg - 1/8 tsp
  • cold water - 1 3
  • cloves - 1/8 tsp
  • allspice - 1/8 tsp
  • shortening cold - 1/3 c
  • to 7 apples, sliced very thin - 5 item

How to make apple crumb pie:

Crust: Cut shortening into 1 cup flour and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Add 1 to 3 tablespoons cold water until pastry holds together. Handle as little as possible. Roll out and place in pie pan.

Pie Filling: Combine 3/4 cup sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, cloves, salt and apples. Mix lightly and heap in pastry-lined pan.

Crumb Topping: Blend butter, brown sugar and 1 cup flour with pastry blender and sprinkle over apples. Bake at 400° for 45 to 55 minutes.
