Ingredients/Components

  • mild Italian sausage links, cut in 1 inch slices - 1 lb
  • large onion, chopped - 1 item
  • apples, peeled and quartered - 2 item
  • sauerkraut undrained - 1 can
  • water - 1 c
  • packed brown sugar - 1/2 c
  • caraway seed - 2 tsp
  • snipped parsley optional - 1 item

How to make sauerkraut casserole:

In a skillet, cook sausage and onion until sausage is brown and onion is tender; drain. Stir in apples, sauerkraut, water, brown sugar and caraway seed. Transfer to a 2 1/2-quart baking dish. Cover and bake at 350° for 1 hour. Garnish with parsley if desired. Yield: 6 to 8 servings.
