  • sugar - 1 c
  • eggs - 2 item
  • vanilla - 2 tsp
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour
  • oil - 1 c
  • baking powder - 1 tsp
  • powdered sugar - 1 c
  • margarine - 1 c
  • cream of tartar - 1 tsp
  • grated lemon peel - 1 tsp

How to make old-fashioned sugar cookies:

In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugars. Beat in eggs, one at a time, until light and fluffy. Add oil, vanilla and lemon peel. Beat until well mixed. In another bowl, combine flour, soda, cream of tartar and salt. Gradually add dry ingredients to creamed mixture and mix well. Wrap and chill dough.

Preheat oven to 350°. Form heaping teaspoonfuls of dough into balls; place on greased cookie sheet. Flatten dough with bottom of glass dipped in sugar. Can use a cookie press, also. Keep remaining dough chilled until ready to use. Bake for 12 to 14 minutes.
