  • egg yolks - 5 item
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • shortening - 1/2 c
  • chopped walnuts - 1 c
  • plain flour - 2 c
  • egg whites, stiffly beaten - 5 item
  • small can coconut - 1 item
  • box 10x sugar - 1 item

How to make italian cream cake:

Icing:1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese1/2 stick margarine1 tsp. vanilla1 box 10x sugar chopped nuts Cream the margarine and shortening. Add sugar and cream until smooth. Add 1 egg yolk at a time; add vanilla, nuts and coconut. Mix the soda with flour and add alternately with buttermilk. Beat until smooth, then fold in egg whites. Bake in three (9-inch) layer cake pans. Bake at 350° for 25 to 35 minutes.

Icing: Cream the cream cheese and margarine until creamy. Add vanilla and 10x sugar and cream together. Spread on cooled cake. Sprinkle with chopped nuts.
