  • sugar - 1 c
  • salt - 1/4 tsp
  • flour - 4 c
  • buttermilk
  • baking powder - 1 tsp
  • baking soda - 1 tsp
  • large egg - 1 item
  • raisins - 1 c
  • unsalted butter, melted - 1/3 c

How to make irish soda bread:

Heat oven to 350°. Grease a 9 or 10-inch cast-iron baking sheet. Combine flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder and salt in a large bowl. Make a well in the center. In a small bowl combine butter, buttermilk and egg. Add the liquids to the dry ingredients, pouring it into the well and stirring to form a soft dough. Add raisins and mix lightly. With lightly floured hands, shape into a ball on a baking sheet. Bake for 50 to 60 minutes.
