Ingredients/Components

  • cinnamon - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • brown sugar - 1 c
  • baking soda - 2 tsp
  • egg - 1 item
  • shortening - 3/4 c
  • molasses - 1/4 c
  • ginger - 2 tsp
  • sifted all-purpose flour
  • ground cloves - 1/2 tsp

How to make gingersnaps:

Cream shortening, brown sugar, molasses and egg until fluffy. Sift together remaining ingredients and stir into molasses mixture. Form into small balls (about 1 teaspoon); roll in granulated sugar and place 2 inches apart on cookie sheet. Bake at 375° for about 8 to 10 minutes. Makes about 5 dozen.
