  • sugar - 1 c
  • eggs - 2 item
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • chopped nuts - 1/2 c
  • flour
  • cocoa - 4 tsp
  • chopped dates - 1 c
  • baking soda - 1 tsp
  • chocolate chips - 1 c
  • shortening - 1 c

How to make chocolate chip date cake:

Pour 1 cup boiling water over the dates and baking soda and let sit while preparing the rest of the recipe.

Mix sugar, shortening, eggs, vanilla, flour and cocoa and add to the date mixture. Put in a greased oblong pan. Sprinkle the chocolate chips and nuts over the top. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

If desired, when done sprinkle top with powdered sugar.
