Ingredients/Components

  • large or 2 small green cabbages - 1 item
  • large sweet white onions - 2 item
  • sugar - 1 c
  • Chop not too fine onions
  • dry mustard - 1 tsp
  • celery seed - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1 Tbsp
  • vinegar - 1 c
  • salad oil - 1/2 c

How to make cabbage salad:

Shred cabbage with a knife. Chop (not too fine) onions. Layer cabbage and onions. Sprinkle sugar over top. Pour boiling dressing over cabbage, and cover at once. Refrigerate immediately. Stir well after four hours, and store in a large covered jar.Dressing:2 tsp. sugar1 tsp. dry mustard1 tsp. celery seed1 Tbsp. salt1 c. vinegar1/2 c. salad oil Combine ingredients; stir well. Heat to a rolling boil.

Note: This salad will keep in the refrigerator for up to two months and is great for large groups. It goes well with ham, barbecue, or hamburgers and is good with other vegetables.
