Buttermilk scones
Ingredients/Components
- sugar
- eggs - 2 item
- salt - 1 tsp
- flour
- butter - 1/2 c
- buttermilk
- baking powder - 1 Tbsp
- baking soda - 1/2 tsp
- orange extract - 1 tsp
- raisins or currants - 1 c
- grated orange peel lemon can also be used - 1 Tbsp
How to make buttermilk scones:
Cut butter into dry ingredients until evenly mixed. Add orange peel and raisins; stir well. Mix buttermilk, 1 egg and extract together, then add all at once to flour mixture; stir until blended.Turn half the dough onto lightly floured board and shape into a 6-inch round. Cut into 8 wedges with a spatula. Place on a large cookie sheet. Repeat with second half of dough.
In a small bowl, beat remaining egg and lightly brush over scones. Then sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 400° for 10 to 15 minutes until golden brown. Serve warm or reheat when ready to serve. Yields 16.
